SB recently graduated from his cookery college course, and was not long after offered a job volunteering to use his newly acquired qualification cooking at New Cross Hospital.
His volunteering placement has come to an end, however New Cross Hospital were so impressed by his hard work that have offered SB a permanent job at the Hospital!
I recently caught up with SB, and he had nothing but rave reviews about his experience at the hospital. He said, ‘The job was brilliant – I had a chance to do a lot of different things from day to day. I did the washing up; I cooked in the big pots and also made some cakes. They let me cook my favourite which is liver and onion in the big pots that are as big as a table, and also made some bread and butter pudding. We help feed over 2,000 people from cooking, and supply the food to different hospitals and care homes, too. I loved all of the things I had to do in my job, but my favourite part was the cooking. I’m a cooker, I love cooking – it’s my hobby.’
SB is eagerly awaiting to be given his start date, and is extremely grateful for the opportunity to be part of the New Cross Hospital kitchen team for 10 hours per week in the near future.
