Select Lifestyles

10th Anniversary Award – Salinder Johal

Salinder Johal recently celebrated her 10 year anniversary of working with Select Lifestyles! To mark the magnificent occasion, Director, Les Trumpeter presented her with a customised loyalty award and bonus.

We asked Salinder a few questions about her time so far with Select Lifestyles.

1. What do you enjoy the most about working at Select?

I enjoy working with the service users mostly, because I’ve built a bond and a good friendship with them, and working with them has given me the opportunity to understand learning difficulties and disabilities better, and its made me a better person.

2. How would you describe your journey so far with Select Lifestyles?

My journey with Select has been a pleasant one. Select has given me the opportunity to work and provide for my family, and the opportunity to go away on holidays with the service users and make a difference in their lives. Select provided opportunities to host birthday parties and multi-cultural events for our service users; I enjoyed organising it for them, making my working environment very pleasant!

3. What advice would you give to someone starting at Select?

The advice I would give to someone starting at Select is that…

Come with an open mind, as everyday working at Select is different. Sometimes, it can be challenging, while some days it’s a breeze, but the support from other staff is there when needed.

4. Can you tell us one fact about you that you would like people to know?

One fact I would like people to know about me is that my appearance may change according to my moods. But underneath it all is the same crazy cat/dog lady that loves to dance, sing, laugh, and play loud music in my car, listening to Elton John to Rock, to Classical and, for inner peace Hans Zimmer.

5. If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three items would you wish you had?

Lastly, I would love to take Johnny Depp, a bottle of rum and a broken compass with me to a deserted Island, but in reality it would be my dog Willow for company, an Army knife and a very very very long piece of rope.
